the Habits of Others
I have an area that is constantly becoming recluttered - my creative space.
Today I'm going to examine why.
Some of it is down to me not putting away things as I think to myself 'I'll come back to that tomorrow.' I have so many projects on the go that when I leave things out for easy of access, it becomes a jumble. So I need to change that and put away pieces of the project at the end of the day, even if I think I will come back to it tomorrow...as invariable, it's a few days before I actually do.
The other issue is the habit of my husband, which I can't change.
He is a person who needs order and I am chaos. it's something we have worked on over our 27 year marriage and we have a bit of an understanding that there are some areas of the house which must remain in order (the kitchen, the lounge, our bedroom and the bathroom), and there are a few areas he has managed to turn a blind eye to.
So if I leave a cross stitch out, or my crochet, or something I'm writing in, and I leave it in the kitchen or lounge, Mike will tidy ...especially if we have guests coming over. Unfortunately as he doesn't know where I put all my things, to tidy means to put everything of mine onto my creative desk.
And this happens.
Even if it belongs to my daughter, it can end up on the desk. and sometimes when he is tidying and I am doing another area, I will say 'just put it on my desk and I will deal with it later'.
I know I'm not going to change his behaviour and I don't want to as that is not fair on him. It is part of who he is and why I love him and I have no desire to change that.
So I have to change my own habits.
That means - not leaving my projects scattered around the house.
This is a tricky one of me. I really like to have things easy to hand so I can pick them up to do just a little bit here and there.
But it's not going to happen in this, is it? I can't find anything quickly anyway.
This is better.
Just putting away the bits and pieces from each project makes a lot of space. I still have a bit of a pile at the end of the table, but i can live with that if I have most of the table clean.
As soon as I did this, the space attracted my daughter to it and she had her lap top on there playing a game. I had to move it to take this photo. It is a great space and I want to use it to it's full potential.
